Environmental Science is concerned with how humans interact with their environment. Through co-operative learning opportunities with science and English, our students will examine the two main questions: Why are we here? and What do we want? as we look at how humans' and organisms' behaviors and actions impact their surroundings.

Students will work as a team with multiple classes having an impact on the final outcomes. They will perform studies of aquatic and terrestrial environments to look at how various factors impact sustainability. Finally, they will compile their information to share on this website and into a printed text for reference in the future.

To examine the roles of humans on the environment, we will compare the coast of Maine and the island of Eastport to the island of Bermuda. Bermuda makes an excellent study location because of its unique diversity of organisms including some of the most northerly coral reefs. Also, Bermuda is one of the most densely populated islands in the world with over 60,000 people on approximately 25 square miles. Students will complete investigations of the various ecosystems in and around the island. Also, they will undertake an individual study of their choosing.
